New Tunnel ~ Earthquake Safe

It’s counter-intuitive, but geotechnical and structural engineers agree – tunnels are among the safest places to be in an earthquake. And Seattle’s new SR 99 tunnel is especially so – designed to survive one of the worst scenarios for the Seattle area – the ‘big one’ – a magnitude 9 off the coast of Washington along the Cascadia Subduction Zone.
