Bonnie Jane Hall is the author of “Reaching the Shore–A Story of survival, Courage and Endurance” along with contributions from her son Devon Jake Douma. This is one story of the juvenile justice system, a story of family, of the typical challenges, and a stark view into prison walls. I feel we can say the penal system if not broken, has many cracks. Devon’s experiences told directly give us these insights. As a result of Devon’s incarceration Bonnie founded Mothers for Prison Reform. As of 2013 the US had the highest incarceration rate in the world.
