Ashley’s Morning Scoop 3.30.16

Empire fans are counting down the hours as season 2 of Fox’s hit show returns tonight at 9.

Film and television star Patty Duke passed away yesterday at the age of 69.  Most famous for her role as identical twins on the Patty Duke Show, Duke was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1982 and began advocating for mental health issues.  Duke’s son, Sean Astin took to Instagram to share a touching tribute to his late mother; “I love you mom. OUR FAMILY STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF PATTY DUKE This morning, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, matriarch and the exquisite artist, humanitarian, and champion for mental health, Anna PATTY DUKE Pearce, closed her eyes, quieted her pain and ascended to a beautiful place. We celebrate the infinite love and compassion she shared through her work and throughout her life. Her work endures…”

Elton John is in some legal trouble after a sexual harassment lawsuit has been filed by Los Angeles Police Captain, Jeffrey Wenninger.  Wenninger says the incidents occurred between 2002 and 2014 while he worked off-duty as Elton John’s bodyguard.  Lawyers for the singer released a statement saying “This baseless lawsuit is brought by a disgruntled former security officer seeking to extract an undeserved payment. These claims are patently untrue and contradicted by numerous previous statements made by this plaintiff.”

JLo joined James Cordon for another rendition of Carpool Karaoke last night and aside from singing all her hits, Cordon used JLo’s phone to send a text to Leonardo DiCaprio saying “Hey, baby, I’m kind of feeling like I need to cut loose. Any suggestions? Let me know. J. Lo (you know, from the block).” The best part is Leonardo’s response; he writes, “You mean tonight boo boo, club wise?”

Selena Gomez and Charlie Puth seem to be taking their friendship to the next level as reports have the two of them flirting and hooking up.  They recorded a duet together for Puth’s album and he will join her on tour, so we will have to see how far this potential romance goes.
