The Final BBQ Days of Summer

So how was your long Labor Day weekend? I had a great weekend. It had been a while since I'd had steak on the BBQ, so I was really craving it. So I bought some top sirloin and marinated it in teriyaki sauce for about 6 hours and then threw it on the grill. The smell of a nicely marinated steak cooking on charcoal is like heaven to me. I couldn't wait to eat it! I also cooked up fresh corn on the cob and baked potatoes. Oh, and some of those Campari tomatoes from Costco too...yummy! The meal was SO GOOD. Even my teenage son loved it.

Doing this BBQ also reminded me how much I love corn. This is the time of year when we still have fresh local sweet corn. And it is so special. I found a place in Monroe that has what I call "butter and sugar" corn. It's the type of corn that has both yellow and while kernels on it. I grew up in upstate NY and that's all they grow there. It's the best corn ever! If you ever see it, you HAVE to try it. So yummy!

So now, with Labor Day over, it's the unofficial end of the summer BBQ season. But who says you can't BBQ in autumn? After all, we haven't had rain in 40 something days now...maybe that trend will continue through the winter! Yeah..right.
