One of my favorite things to eat here in Washington is Rainier cherries. I LOVE THEM. They are in season right now AND I've noticed several stores have put them on sale this week for around $3/pound. In my opinion, that's a bargain for this delicacy.
Some things you may not know about Rainier cherries...
1. They were developed in 1952 at WSU (go Cougs!)
2. Rainiers are very sensitive to wind, rain, and temperature. They're delicate.
3. Every year, about 1/3 of the crop is eaten by....BIRDS!
4. They sell for as much as $1 APIECE in Japan. (WOW!)
The season is short, so enjoy them right now!
