Last night on the American Idol finale, I finally realized just how talented Phillip Phillips is. He's amazing. His musical style is unique with the raspy delivery and ability to wrap his voice around just about any song. Last night during the finale, Phillip and Jessica Sanchez sang their original songs, the songs they will release if they become the American Idol. Jessica sang "Change Nothing." I thought it was just OK, nothing special. Then, Phillip sang his song, "Home"...and he blew me away. First of all, it was a really good song. Well written with a great hook. And Phillip just mastered it and made it really sound like he's been singing that song for years. I could visualize him performing it at a concert. So based on the original songs, I'd give the edge to Phillip.
I thought Jessica shined in her earlier performances though, especially "The Prayer." That's one of my favorite songs, so I AM biased on this one. But she sang it with tremendous emotion last night. Jessica has incredible range in her voice and it's going to be very hard to beat her for the title. Plus, she has a HUGE amount of Twitter and You Tube followers who could propel her to victory.
I think it'll be a very close vote and I'm predicting Phillip to win. But it wouldn't be a surprise to me to see Jessica take it.
