My son Chris and I went whale watching together on Saturday aboard the Victoria Clipper 3. We saw a minke whale, lots of sea lions, seals, and even a bald eagle. Beautiful scenery was everywhere we looked. The San Juan islands are a true treasure. I would love to live there.
The Victoria Clipper also has a naturalist on board to guide you towards what to look for and give you lots of facts about the marine wildlife.
The best part of the trip however, and this was totally unexpected, was spending time with my son and just talking to each other. It's an all day trip, so we had a lot of spare time. And we talked...a lot. I would even go so far as calling it a bonding experience. I love my son a lot, but the times when we just sit down and talk to each other are not as frequent as I'd like. This trip made up for a lot. It was special for both of us.
When was the last time you sat down and really TALKED with your kids? If it's been a while, do what I did. Spend a day together and just talk about whatever is on your mind. It's amazing. I feel so much closer with my son because we had that day together.

evayu - I know what you mean about talking to your kids. The opportunity doesn't come up ofter. I am taking my son to Arizona next month and I hope we will talk alot. I had a great time in Victoria. ( I sat behind you in line)
