Which of these new potato chip flavors sounds good to you?

The people at Lay’s asked Americans to use their imaginations and come up with some new flavors for potato chips. They narrowed down the thousands of ideas to four finalists, and now they’re actually putting those flavors on store shelves so we can sample them and vote for a winner. The person who cooked up the winning flavor gets a million bucks, and we get  . . . well, we get a new taste sensation.

I guess the idea was to go with regional favorites reflecting the cuisine of various parts of the country, so the finalists are: Wavy West Coast Truffle Fries, Southern Biscuits and Gravy,  New York Reuben, and  Kettle Cooked Greektown Gyro Flavored Potato Chips. They all sound pretty good –or at least the actual foods on which they’re based sound good. Can they translate that into potato chips that taste good, and not be weird and artificial? Only one way to find out. Gotta give ’em a try.

I’m kind of gravitating toward the Reuben, if they can actually capture that magical combo of corned beef, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing, and rye bread. We’ll see.

Look for the chips in your grocery store now, give them the old taste test, and vote for your fave starting Monday July 27.
