Getting more work done on my project Avanti and you can see, it’s at its most unattractive right now. Previous owners have made a mess of the wiring and sometimes it feels a bit overwhelming, but I am taking it one wire at a time.
You can see it’s going to take a while before I drive this one to work!
When a vehicle is so butchered, typically you buy a new set of wires, called a “harness”. But because this car hasn’t been made in many years and the company that made it is no longer in the car business, you turn to vendors who sell after-market parts. Well, these harnesses are made of ‘unobtanium’… meaning; not available. I will be making my own.
What complicates the project is the fact the body is made of fiberglass, and fiberglass is not conductive to electricity so issues such as grounding of the circuits must be done with extra care.
It ain't pretty now, but stay tuned. As I get more done, I will update the blog... and thank you for the self-indulgence here. I know our listening (and presumably viewing) audience is heavily female but if your hubby, partner, friend or significant other is a motorhead like me, I'm ready and willing to take any and all advice!

oldviolin - Tom; I'm a "brand-new" member to your post. My name is Rick and I live in Wisconsin. I drive "big trucks" across this beautiful country of ours. And I am a very large fan of our awesome northwest. I've been crossing this country for well over 40 years. But every time that I come out that way, it's like the first time; I am SOOOO amazed at the beauty of that area. You all are sooo blessed to be residents in such a spectacular area. I have all my favorite radio stations from across this country downloaded onto my home desktop computer. I've been laid up for the past couple months with a back injury and a hernia that ***** tending to, but I am extremely anxious to get back on the road. I've been going over your posts the last couple days, and I notice that you have an Avanti that you are attempting to restore and I see by the picture that the electrical systems are a complete shambles - putting it mildly. Besides driving OTR for all these past years, I've also been in the shop for nearly half of that time, I reckon. Wiring is my favorite system to tackle. I really enjoy bringing systems together and seeing the finished challenge come to life. I would enjoy giving you any tips that may help you to understand the systems. For now; Have a blessed Memorial Day Holiday weekend. Get your grill all fired up and throw on some good Wisconsin brats on the fire. And being a Vietnam era vet, I really appreciated the article about what our VETERANS have provided for us. Thank You again.
