My thumbnail picture is a beautiful wintry scene, but what lies ahead for six intrepid adventurers is anything but pastoral.
Explorer Ranulph Fiennes is leading a team on this 2,000 mile journey to conquer the last great polar challenge: crossing Antarctica in winter. This forboding place is cold in summer, but they're going at it's coldest! Their aim is to raise over $10 million for Seeing is Believing, the international charity which aims to eliminate avoidable blindness and visual impairment across the world.
Read about how they're preparing for months of slogging across the continent in total darkness and the equipment they'll be using. Find out more about The Coldest Journey on their website and feel free to share your thoughts and messages on their comments pages.
Throughout the expedition the site will be updated with regular blogs and bulletins from Sir Ranulph and the crew so you can experience the adventure with them as they take on this extraordinary feat of daring, endurance and life on the coldest journey on Earth.
