Purple Passion Update

For the past few weeks, I’ve been working on the project car, a ’63 Studebaker Avanti, and have found a veritable rats nest of wiring from previous owners.  Never have I seen such a collection of zip-tied, mis-matched wires in all the time I’ve worked on cars.

From the moment the previous owner attempted to hook up a battery and we watched wires smoke from various points under the hood, I knew this was going to be the supreme challenge.  Among them, the fact it’s a fiberglass car.  Unlike a metal body, it does not conduct electricity so finding a good “ground” is important if I want the lights to work… and everything else for that matter.

I am almost to the point of removing the dashboard and that’s when I’ll enlist the help of Jannelle, who in the past has gotten stuck in various places both under and on top of cars while holding wrenches, screwdrivers and anything else I need a third human hand to hold.  In fact, if I can find a photo from maybe ten years ago the magazine ‘Turning Wheels’ published of her holding the pliers, I’ll post it here.

One day I plan to drive this car to work at 2:30am and I want dependable wheels under me!  This one will take a long time, but I’ll get there!

alan - Good luck with that mess! Is your car supercharged?  Can't quite see past that cool air cleaner.

Tom - Thanks for your comment, Alan.  No, it's not supercharged.  Are you an Avanti owner, too?

alan - I wish, Tom! No, I've just always liked the styling, particularly the nose with the round headlights. Was purple the original color? Gonna stick with it?
