The results of a new study have shown, among tea drinkers, those who had three cups of black tea daily for six months, saw both their systolic (top number) and diastolic (bottom number) readings drop by three and two points, respectively.
Even these small drops in blood pressure translate into a 7% to 10% drop in risk for cardiovascular disease.
The theory is, possibly the flavonoids in black tea may improve the functioning of cells that line the blood vessels, says Dr. Jon Hodgson, research professor at the University of Western Australia in Perth.
Bottoms up!
