In less than 10 days the doors will open to Harold LeMay's dream. A World-Class museum in Tacoma for those of us who consider ourselves "motorheads" but also for anyone with even a passing interest in America's transportation history.
From the LeMay Museum website; "...designed to preserve history and celebrate the world’s automotive culture. The spacious facility will house up to 350 cars, trucks and motorcycles from private owners, corporations and the LeMay collection, which amassed a Guinness Book record of more than 3,500 vehicles in the mid-‘90s."
I have many friends who knew Mr. LeMay and his passion for having never met a car he didn't like. Story has it, he only sold a few cars in his lifetime. For him, it was all about collecting and refurbishing tired iron for others to enjoy. Taking the annual bus tour, complete with Mrs. LeMay's home-made cookies was something I always meant to do, but never actually did and I regret it.
The doors open Saturday, June 2nd at 10am and you can be sure there will be thousands waiting to get in. Advance ticket sales are underway at www.lemaymuseum.org where you can also read all about this fantastic new place that resembles a hood scoop on the horizon and by all means take the kids sometime this summer!

alan - Thanks for the link; what a fascinating place! Everything from a Lotus racer to a Bristol bus, and so many American classics as well. And they have their own Avanti project going on, too!
