Ok I admit it. I spend a considerable amount of time using social media. In my business of media and music it's almost mandatory. Another extension of the message and well it's fun. I enjoy friends updates and even find I use Facebook like email. Lots of peeps check their social media pages more than email. Some border on obsessive and well others.. that's for another blog!
A growing trend of employers trying to keep abreast of what their workers are doing online is asking for Facebook password access.
According to a report on MSNBC today "In Maryland, job seekers applying to the state's Department of Corrections have been asked during interviews to log into their accounts and let an interviewer watch while the potential employee clicks through wall posts, friends, photos and anything else that might be found behind the privacy wall."
In theory, it's voluntary, but in reality, if you don't log into your account and let an interviewer poke around, you may not get the job.
I find this over the line. I do not think anyone should have to give up their social media passwords to anyone. What's next? Can I have the password to your email account? Dial into your home phone and let us listen to you voicemail. I don't think so.
