Goodbye J.P. There will never be another one like you.

Northwest icon J.P. Patches died quietly this morning at 84. He was beloved by  generations of northwesterners. The  J.P. Patches Show was a fixture on local television for 23 years, from 1958 to 1981. It was the longest-running local children's show in the country. J.P Patches had a huge impact on northwest children who up until recently turned out to see J.P. at public appearances with their children and grandchildren.

"In 2008, JP and Gertrude, along with hundreds of Patches Pals, went to the Fremont neighborhood to unveil a lasting tribute to them and their characters – a statue. Gov. Chris Gregoire attended the ceremony and thanked them for “letting us be kids forever.”
