You’ve probably heard someone say “chivalry is dead” thousands of times and well there may be some merit to that. Gone are the days when women expected men to open, hold and close doors for them. Chivalrous behavior is no longer the norm.
Despite this I still think chivalry has its place. I love old-fashioned romance and chivalry; but I think chivalry now means being kind and courteous to anyone, regardless of if we are romantically interested in them or not.
These days, kindness to strangers seems to have become rare. Because common courtesy doesn't exist as much anymore, it can make us suspicious when we do receive kind gestures from others, and we assume kindness is part of someone's ulterior motives.
Chivalry isn't about getting things in return. Chivalry is about being recognized to a degree for your actions and knowing that the person you are with will also treat you right.
In short, chivalry is a choice to do the right things, for the right reasons, at the right times!
Oh and in the romance department don't try to be too chivalrous or the person you're yearning over will see right through your act! (If you like them, then you will automatically put them on a pedestal without realizing it.) People notice when it's honest and when they're being put on. Be yourself and act normal!
Chivalry is still alive and it's still important. In todays hurry up culture a little common courtesy can go a long ways... You know, chivalry could be called the original template for “random acts of kindness.”
