Ever since 1978, the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest has been famously challenged on Coney Island near Brooklyn, NY. Is there anything more American than an eating contest?!
And for the 6th year in a row, Joey "Jaws" Chesnut from San Jose, CA topped the field by equaling his own world record of 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes!!! The 28 year old today took home the $10,000 Grand Prize, two cases of hot dogs, and the Nathan's Famous "Mustard" Belt. The female winner was Sonja "Black Widow" Thomas from Alexandria, Virginia with a total of 45 dogs downed. Here's the video recap:
Any way you look at it...almost 7 hot dogs eaten per minute and a total of over 18,500 calories consumed in 10 minutes is incredible!
