Translated from spanish- it means: Long live people free from slavery. And until I truly researched the "holiday" for this blog, I never knew it had something to do with our Civil War fight in the United States! On the date back in 1862, 4,000 Mexican troops out-numbered 2 to 1 defeated the French Army trying to get to Mexico City from Veracruz in Central Mexico. It was significant because since the Battle of Puebla, no country in the Americas has been invaded by any other Foreign military force.
