Ski Lifts, Inc. advertisement, The Seattle Times, December 1948

As we hope for more snow and a good save to whats been a slow Winter in the Cascades.  Amazing thoughts here when you hear of the first chance for Seattle to go skiing.  When did it happen?  Webb Moffett became the first employee of Ski Lifts, Inc., hired to operate the rope tow, there was only one,  at Snoqualmie Summit beginning January 1, 1938. Hhere is the actual advertsement in the local paper.  Mind you, there was no I-90 Freeway. You still had to go through cities of  Issaquah and Northbend. We were not known for snow plows and avalanch control.  It would be a full day journey. But what about night operations on the slopes? Read the Ad and for more information call PR 0514…too funny!  Today we have Gondolas with heat, Hot meals, Hotels, and 6 Seat Chairlifts…and the Rope Tow era is gone.   mark@warm1069.com  @markcradio
