It’s official: Sam Smith is going to have surgery on his vocal cords

The singer has had to cancel several shows already because of issues with his vocal cords; now he’s going to fix those pesky pipes once and for all. Here’s how he made the announcement yesterday on Instagram:

Obviously he’s going to have to cancel some shows if he’s recuperating for eight weeks. But I did a little math, and if he has the operation next week, and everything goes smoothly, and he returns to the stage in eight weeks, that’s still only mid-July. His concert at the Gorge is scheduled for August 8. So unless we hear something different, we’re still counting on a Sam Smith concert this summer.

And best of luck with the surgery, Sam!
