Volunteers

First 5K the other day (yup this is a year of firsts) I came across a clump of daffodils in a rocky patch next to the sidewalk. In a place where clearly no one had planted them intentionally, they were up and fully blooming!  Everything around me was brown and gray, and here those beautiful flowers were thriving under adverse conditions and clearly beating out other plants and bulbs that had been pampered & pushed at a greenhouse or nursery. It made me smile and think of this great quote:
