Inspiration!

We have a very special group of people here at Warm 106.9. It takes a hard working team of people to make this station run and often you don’t see them because they work ‘behind the scenes’. This blog gives us the chance to spotlight one of our exceptional team members!

This is Buck. He is always smiling and happy to help, and boy do we need a lot of help most days!

His day job involves working in our engineering department, an important job to keep our station running, but we are going to focus on a different verb for the moment-growing.

You see, Buck has been growing his hair out for several years, and at first a few people thought it was just a fashion statement. Maya and I sat him down to find out what was going on, because man, this guy can grow some hair.

“Buck, what is going on with your hair?” I can’t help but ask.

“Well, I decided I am going to donate my hair to Locks of Love” he says.

“Wow- that is awesome, you certainly have plenty to share!” we laugh.

(At this point he pulls out a ponytail that is easily 2 feet long)

Then he says “That is nothing, check this out!” (He holds up a full gallon bag full of long ponytails).

Buck then pulls off his hat, and his entire head is shaved.

Suitably impressed, Maya asks “What made you decide to do this, growing that much hair & then cutting it all off, that is quite a commitment!”

“Growing up is hard enough. The thought of a kid trying hard to fit in, while dealing with a medical issue (probably not feeling well) that causes them to lose their hair is hard enough for them and their family, but also feeling inadequate because they have no hair? That is hard. Growing my hair long for two years is not hard. To help a kid feel normal, and help them be a part of what other kids consider normal, this is something I can do—I’m lucky that I can grow hair easily, genetically able to grow massive amounts of hair in a short time, I guess that is my one superhero capability!” He laughs.

See why we like Buck? Just think: You could be a superhero too!  www.locksoflove.org
