Dad gives his kid an avocado for his birthday to test his manners

I’m all for raising kids with good manners, but I’m honestly not sure if this is good parenting or not. This father wanted to teach his son that you should always be grateful when someone gives you a gift, even if it’s not the greatest gift in the world.

The dad, Jeff Simmons, told Global News, “Earlier in the day we were teaching him that when you get presents from friends and family, you have to react in a polite way, even if you don’t actually like the present. So we wrapped up an avocado later on and this was his response!” It’s seems a tiny bit mean-spirited to me, but I guess they’ve done a good job teaching the kid manners, because he looks and sounds genuinely thrilled to be receiving the gift of an avocado:
