Over the years, Seattle has made more Top 10 lists than just about any other city in the USA. Most of the lists we've made have been "good lists." But now, we've made a bad one. We are now OFFICIALLY the 4th most traffic congested city in NORTH AMERICA. That's right, 4th worst in NORTH AMERICA, not just in the U.S. This is not a list a city wants to be on.
Highlights of the #4 ranking include for every hour Puget Sound commuters spend on the road, 35 minutes are wasted on slowdowns. Our morning commute is better than the afternoon drive home. The commute time in the morning is 48% longer than free flowing traffic. On the way home, it's 70% longer than regular moving traffic conditions.
Want to know the absolute WORST times of week to be on the road? Wednesday morning (for some odd reason) and the old stand-by, Friday afternoon.
The only cities in North America to beat us out were L.A., Vancouver B.C., and Miami.
So the next time you're stuck in traffic and you say to yourself, "this traffic is the worst!"...you're almost right.
